Glen Ridge Marching Band takes first place at Musicfest 2017

The Glen Ridge High School Marching Band has finished in first place among Division 1A bands in the Musicfest 2017 competition at Brick Township High School on Saturday, Sept. 16. The Marching Ridgers took home wins for best music, best overall effect, and best visual. The band’s 75.6 score put them ahead of more than half the bands in Saturday’s competition.

Welcome

Welcome to the Glen Ridge Music Parents Association!

GRMPA is a nonprofit, volunteer organization made up of Glen Ridge, New Jersey parents supporting all music programs in our schools grades 7 – 12. Programs include: Chorus, Color Guard, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Percussion Ensemble, and String Orchestra.

Every year, GRMPA sponsors fund-raisers such as the town-wide Citrus Sale in the fall and the Pancake Breakfast in the spring. The monies raised during these events help fund educational enrichment programs, field trips, performances, and competitions as well as help purchase and repair of instruments in Glen Ridge schools. In addition, GRMPA underwrites, supports, and cheers on the award-winning, competitive Marching Band and Color Guard from the pre-season August Band camp through November championships. We are also very proud each spring to award a deserving senior with a GRMPA scholarship.

Parent volunteers are crucial to the success of our music programs so please consider joining us. We are a friendly, inclusive, music loving group of parents who look forward to working together to have another success year of music in our schools. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at our email: grmpa.email@gmail.com

Thank you,

David Cohen – GRMPA President 2018-19

100th Monkey Foundation raises funds for GRMPA!

The 100th Monkey Foundation, whose stated mission is “to help secure a healthy environment, promote individuality in the arts, provide support to critical and necessary social services, assist others less fortunate than ourselves, build a stronger community, and educate children and adults everywhere” presented GRMPA with a check for $900.00 to support Glen Ridge music programs!

Jim Cowan and others from 100th Monkey Foundation present Joan Giurdanella, GRMPA President, with a donation check for $900!

The 100th Monkey Foundation’s generous donation stemmed from proceeds received from their wonderful Beatles tribute benefit concert at Tierney’s Restaurant in Montclair, NJ on February 25, 2017.

March Trifecta: Jazz Band Coffee House, Pancake Breakfast and Southside Quartet!

Jazz Band Coffee House 2017There are three great GRMPA events/fundraisers in March that deserve your attendance and support!

First is the Jazz Band Coffee House (Wednesday, 3/22/17 at 7:00 pm at the GRHS Cafeteria), which features wonderful jazz pieces by GRHS students. Some of us parents snuck into a rehearsal a few weeks ago which was terrific and we can’t wait! Come out in full force to support our kids.

GRMPA Pancake BreakfastSecond is the Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, March 25th (Glen Ridge Congregational Church, 8:30 – 11:00 AM) which is one of GRMPA’s biggest fundraisers. What is better than eating pancakes and sausages prepared by Glen Ridge parents and served by Glen Ridge High School kids? Eating them with friends and neighbors from all over town and meeting new neighbors. It’s a Glen Ridge tradition you don’t want to miss! Get your Pancake Breakfast tickets now!

Southside Quartet Poster BlueThird – and back by popular demand — Glen Ridge’s own Southside Quartet performs a benefit concert for GRMPA on Friday, March 31st (Glen Ridge Train Station, 8:00 – 10:00 pm). The Southside Quartet (Paul Byrne, Steve DeLuca, Michael Kruge, Jerry Weir) performed their inaugural concert last year to a packed house and rave reviews. They also raised a lot of money to support Glen Ridge music programs. There is limited space so get your tickets ASAP before they sell out!

Cabaret Night 2017: Students, Staff perform for a packed house!

Caberet-Night-PosterThe big room at The Old Canal Inn was completely filled – with barely any standing room – as we watched 13 fantastic musical acts. Each performance highlighted the amazing musical talents of Glen Ridge’s students and staff. Hosted warmly and wonderfully by Steve DeLuca and his quite terrible, eye-rolling jokes and one-liners, every act received raucous applause and cheers from the audience. Below are some pics from the evening. Several more pics and videos have also been shared on our Facebook page.

GRMPA appreciates the many parents who helped put this great evening together and thanks the Old Canal Inn for their gracious hospitality and support.

Your citrus donations make a real difference!

Dear GRMPA Parents and the entire Glen Ridge Community,

Each year, many of you purchase bags of citrus and check the Donate option. Doing so doubles your impact because not only does the Glen Ridge music program benefit but so do real people in need. This December, thanks to your generosity, we delivered several cases of fruit to the Human Needs Pantry and to Toni’s Kitchen. Below are their letters of thanks so you can see firsthand the difference your contribution makes.

Thank you for your continued support of GRMPA and our larger community.
